I think this is what soccer is meant for. Maybe it’s what all sport is meant for.
To enable 13 random adults and one 4 year old to get out of their heads and run and dodge and run themselves into a panting, hooting, grinning sweat, as the sun goes down behind the hills…
It’s day 4 of our Spring on-farm Permaculture Design Certificate.
Everyone’s brains are full of patterns and methods of design and climatic factors and considerations for the future of this world we live on.
And that we run on. With a ball. Which sometimes, we get to kick.
I am usually vaguely suspicious of organised sport in general, but this… this is how it’s meant to be, I rekon.
A bunch of folks who have been in their heads all day.
A ball. A sunset. An hour till dinner. Some vaguely flat ground.
Who got the most points? I can’t remember. The gingham strips, I think. Not that it mattered.

Indeed this is what sport should be. Exercise, fresh air, freedom, good sportsmanship, inclusion and above all, a LOT of fun! 😀
